Village Events 2009 QUIZ NIGHT ¨C APRIL 2009 The quiz night was held at Llanfair Primary School on Friday 24 April again this year. Once again Peter and Melanie O'Neill kindly stepped in to organize what proved to be a highly enjoyable evening. As usual well stocked bar was available and nibbles provided. A total of £430.14 was raised for village funds. Wine and Cheese A great evening was had by all at this fabulous event. Many thanks to Malcolm and Jan Waskett for opening up their house and fabulous garden for the evening. The evening started with a very challenging round-the-world quiz requiring participants to identify samples of cheese and their countries of origin, followed by an even more serious consumption of large quantities of wines from around the world, all organised by our genial hosts. Other events included a tombola, a raffle, and of course, an even wider selection of cheese and biscuits. A healthy £237.76 was raised for village funds. Strawberry Cream TeaPhil and Tessa Matthews again very generously stepped up to host this year's event at the Old Rectory. Fresh strawberries and cream (of course) were served as part of our afternoon teas. A champagne tent, cake stall, plant stall, tombola and raffle also featured. The weather was a little overcast but warm and dry, and turnout was fantastic with approximately 80 people present. The total raised was a healthy £861.07. Photo¡¯s were taken of previous events - click here to see them all A big thank you to the hosts Phil and Tessa Mathews for the use of their beautiful garden. Spinney BBQ 5 September 2009 Many thanks to all who made the BBQ a great success, with special thanks to the event organisers, Julie Howell and Sarah Wallace. Although the sun was barely apparent, the weather was at least dry and not too cold this year. The village juniors enjoyed a brief boules match on our ¡°pistes¡± on the broad central pathway, under the able oversight and umpiring of Cathy Mangles. In the meantime the serious business of eating and drinking got underway with Hugh Wallace on the barbeque and Jim Teague administering the amber nectar¡ In total a very commendable £309.09 was raised for village funds. Harvest Supper 8 October 2009 David and Jo Ilsley will again be hosting this year's harvest supper at the Granary, St Mary Church on Thursday 8 October.
